How to get to Pisa

Visitors travelling to Italy will find numerous and competitive flights. Unless you're pushed for time, train travel is a great way to enter Italy from within Europe. Buses are numerous but can't really compete with the convenience of the train.

By plane

Pisa has an international airport with daily flights from the most important european cities, as well as to Rome, Milan, and other important Italian cities.

The timetable of incoming and outgoing flights together with a list of carriers is available at the Pisa International Airport website (Galileo Galilei Airport, PSA).

Otherwise, you may fly to Florence (Amerigo Vespucci Airport, FLR) and transfer to Pisa by train (1.5-2 hours, including transfer to the railway station Firenze S. Maria Novella). Florence is quite well connected with most European cities. The airport is approximately 3 km from the center and is connected to it by train, bus and taxi.

By train

Pisa's railway station is on the line from Turin to Rome. There are many connections also with Florence. The train schedule is available from Trenitalia. Please keep in mind that in Italy, before getting on the train, you must stamp your ticket using some small yellow machines available in the station.

If you arrive in Pisa by train or by plane, you may use the shuttle bus service to and from the airport and the station that most of the hotels offer.

By car

Pisa is near the intersection of two highways: A12 north-south (Sestri Levante - Livorno) and A11 east-west (Pisa - Florence). Exit at "Pisa centro", follow the SGC Fi-Pi-Li ("Strada Grande Comunicazione") route towards Florence. Exit at "Pisa Areoporto" and follow the directions in the map. If you come from North, you may prefer to exit the highway at "Pisa Nord" follow the Aurelia road to Pisa center and then the directions in the map.
